Confused by the different types of mascara wands on the market? Molded, bristled, gigantic, curved, mini? Often what makes the best mascara is not the formula but the brush, as it’s responsible for the correct distribution of product on your individual type of lashes.
Below I sort through the different options available and recommend what I have found to be the best performing version of each type:
Molded Brush – Plastic wands that function like a mascara comb allowing for flexible, even application and a highly defined look. Typically narrow allowing you to easily reach the lash root. Good for all lash types, including sparse or shorter lashes.
Traditional – The type of bristled brush we are all most familiar with. Can be barrel or cone-shaped and comes in varying widths. Typically delivers more volume than a molded brush. Good for lashes that have a medium length and thickness and beyond.
Giant Brush – An oversized take on the traditional bristled brush used to create exceptional length and volume. Best for medium to long lashes as it can be difficult for those with shorter lashes to get brush close to the root. Use a single coat to prevent clumping.
